I remember the day I fell in love with broccoli. It was love at first crunch!
I grew up on a steady diet of sugar, pop tarts or frosted flakes for breakfast, fluffernutter and wonder bread sandwiches and hostess cupcakes for lunch, cookies for my afternoon snack…
I never ate vegetables because I was convinced that I hated them. The mere smell of them cooking would make me gag. – I think you get the picture. Right?

I struggled with my weight and felt like crap. My weight management strategy was to obsessively weigh myself. On any given day, the amount of food I’d eat was highly dependent on two things:
- What the number on my bathroom scale said and,
- How stressed or emotional I was feeling.
Then something really surprising happened.
I met a friend who loved to cook and one night at her house, I found myself face-to-face with a plate of roasted broccoli. Not wanting to be rude, I took a bite and was blown away. That crunchy green stuff tasted incredible! It was like my taste buds woke up from a long sleep. I couldn’t believe how much I loved the taste!
That was my big lightbulb moment!
It was like a switch went on and almost overnight, I made a profound shift in my thoughts and beliefs on food, dieting and health.
I began to eat broccoli and discovered other veggies and wholesome foods that I enjoyed. I paid attention to how real food tastes, noticed how these foods boosted my energy and improved my mood and mental clarity.
In the past, I used to battle with cravings, reflux, bloating, unwanted weight gain, and more. But, once I cut back on all that sugar and junk food and started eating more veggies and whole foods, it was like magic – all those symptoms just disappeared…
And, that’s when I decided to break up with my bathroom scale!
Instead of obsessing about my weight and worrying about the number on the scale, I focused on how energetic and vibrant I feel when I fuel my body with wholesome foods.
I used to think that eating healthy was about willpower and depriving myself. But, now I see it as a way to respond to my body’s cues, enabling me to feel my best and live my best life
